Ogier in the wheels of Mikkelsen

Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen) saw his small lead in the Rally of Germany to be reduced to nothing at the end of the first two special stages of the second stage. While the Norwegian opted for soft tires when the rain made its appearance, the Scandinavian was unable to take advantage of it to increase his lead since he lost a handful of seconds by missing a turn.

This error allowed Sébastien Ogier to come back to two tenths of the first Volkswagen driver despite his hard tires. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) still completes the top three but the Belgian is now 11 seconds behind, maintaining a lead of 5”7 over Dani Sordo (Hyundai).

Ott Tänak (Ford) still completes the top five by widening the gap on Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën). The Estonian took advantage of his team's good strategy having sent him on soft tires. Mads Ostberg (Ford) follows in seventh place ahead of Hayden Paddon (Hyundai).

Esapekka Lappi (Skoda Fabia R5) took the lead WRC 2 with seven tenths behind Pontus Tidemand (Skoda). Both drivers took advantage of an error by Armin Kremer (Skoda) who now finds himself 21 seconds behind the Finn in tenth position in the general classification.

The crews will leave from 10:22 a.m. with two runs on the super special before facing Panzerplatte.
