Ogier equals Markku Alén's Rally Portugal record

Sébastien Ogier (Ford) offers its 5th victory at Rally of Portugal and the 40th success of his career in WRC. The pilot M-Sport égale ainsi le record de Markku Alén en s’imposant devant les Hyundai de Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo and thus increases his lead in the Championship by signing his second success of the season in six events after that of Monte-Carlo.

“It’s fantastic to be back on the top step of the podium. The new car was perfect”, commented Sébastien Ogier just after the finish.

Ott Tänak (Ford) retained the advantage over Craig Breen qui complète le top cinq et qui sauve les meubles chez Citroën. Elfyn Evans (Ford) se classe au 7e rang devant Juho Hänninen (Toyota), Mads Ostberg (Ford) et Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota).

Andreas Mikkelsen (Skoda) looked set to score another victory in WRC 2 by completing the top ten in the general classification and winning with a large lead over Pontus Tidemand (Skoda) and Teemu Suninen (Ford), but the Norwegian is rolled over in the Power Stage and left the victory to the Swede. Quentin Gilbert (Skoda) was in 4th place in the category before also finishing on the roof in the first pass of Fafe. The Frenchman leaves the last step of the podium in the category to Simone Tempestini (DS 3).

Ott Tänak won the Power Stage and his five bonus points by winning ahead of Thierry Neuville, Elfyn Evans, Esapekka Lappi and Sébastien Ogier. The four-time world champion increases his lead in the Championship by now ahead of Thierry Neuville by 22 points.
