“Our victory in Sardinia comes from solid performance and good reliability”. that is how Toyota summarizes its performance in its latest press release. Ogier was indeed able to take advantage of the misfortunes of his competitors Daniel Sordo and above all Ott Tänak, then at the head of the rally before rolling away.

It is also the first time since 2015 that the duo Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia have won the event in Sardinia. A performance praised by management, starting with Jari-Matti Latvala, team principal: “This is a fantastic result for our team. We came to Sardinia knowing that it was going to be difficult for us. But in the end we are 1 and 2. It's not perfect because Kalle Rovempera was unlucky on the 1st day but we have to learn from that and come back even stronger in the future. »

This is the first time that Toyota has won on Italian soil, which boss Akio Toyoda did not fail to point out: “I am very happy that we finally won in Sardinia for the first time. We can finally participate in the tradition of jumping into the sea during the podium. »

Ogier, for his part, points out the difficulty of achieving such a performance by opening the road: “It’s an incredible weekend for us. We couldn't have hoped for a better outcome when we arrived in Sardinia. To do a double by leading the way is a fantastic achievement. I'm also very happy to have better sensations than in Portugal, where the pace was not as good as we wanted. »

The pilots will travel to Kenya from June 24 to 27 for the Safari, which will make its return after almost 20 years of absence.
