Ogier: “We took fewer risks than Neuville”

The co-record holders of Monte-Carlo victories prefer to see the bright side of things, even if Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul won. " I think we can be satisfied with our weekend, said Sébastien Ogier. The problem is that everyone always expects miracles from us here because we have won here many times (7)

However, Monte-Carlo remains a unique challenge, especially with a new car, it is not easy to tame. » A feat that Sébastien Ogier has achieved four times: in 2009 with the Peugeot 207 S2000, in 2013 with the Volkswagen Polo R, in 2017 with the Ford Fiesta and in 2019 with the Citroën C3.

Regarding his new work tool, the Frenchman is optimistic. « The Yaris really has potential. At times we really enjoyed ourselves, at others, I still lack a little experience behind the wheel to be able to let go, I can't feel the car in all conditions. When conditions permit, it’s very pleasant to drive. The season is long, it’s good to start with 22 points. »

Finally, the Gapençais sent a sort of warning to his rival Thierry Neuville. “I think we took fewer risks than Thierry (Neuville), especially when the conditions were tricky. This is where we lost the most time.

It is faithful to my line of conduct. I won the Monte-Carl’ several times while trying to stay in my comfort zone. There, we saw that this (Sunday) morning he hit a wall and broke a rim. When it wants to pass, it will pass, but it won't pass every day. »
