Ogier: “Not much to hope for from the weekend”

Sébastien Ogier and his boss at Citroën Racing Pierre Budard had warned: the first stage of the 2019 Swedish Rally was likely to be a difficult day in case of bad weather conditions. It was ultimately worse than feared, since the six-time world rally champion (WRC) did not complete the first stage, Friday February 15.

The Frenchman, who was sailing as best he could in seventh place after five stages, made a mistake in SS 6. The Citroën C3 WRC hit the wall of snow at the rear, before being propelled into the lead. tail in the aisle. To make matters worse, there were no spectators to help the Sébastien Ogier-Julien Ingrassia duo get back on the road!

Condemned to let all competitors pass, the leaders of the day then returned to the service park without finishing the stage. “It’s always complicated in the second pass. I hit the snowdrift lightly and crashed. It wasn't anything big, but there was no one. We had to run about a kilometer to bring some back », explains the Gapençais.

The winner of the last Rally Monte Carlo should restart on Saturday thanks to the Rally 2 rule. “There’s not much left to look forward to from the weekend. I had enough time to have fun in the snow, I could almost have made a snowman », smiled ironically Sébastien Ogier.
