Ogier takes advantage of Mikkelsen

Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) took the lead Rally of Germany by signing the scratch in the 40km of Panzerplatte, the longest special of the event where several drivers wrongly bet on the rain by choosing soft tires.

The Championship leader gained more than 13 seconds on his teammate Andreas Mikkelsen who was the same behind in the general classification at the end of the morning. The Norwegian lost time by opting for a mix of hard and soft tires making his Polo R WRC difficult to fly.

La bagarre pour la troisième place se poursuit entre les pilotes Hyundai Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo. The Spaniard took a second from the Belgian by being closest to Sébastien Ogier on the long course to come back to 1”6 from the top three. The winner of the 2014 edition lost his power steering in the last kilometers of Panzerplatte.

Ott Tänak (Ford) maintains fifth place by marking the break in the peloton since he is more than a minute behind Dani Sordo. The Estonian is now ahead of Mads Ostberg (Ford) and Hayden Paddon (Hyundai), separated in six seconds.

Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën) was in sixth place before going off the road in Panzerplatte. The Frenchman's accident caused the special to be stopped in order to allow medical assistance to bring relief to the crew.

The second pass of the second stage of the Rally Germany will be contested from 15:38 p.m.
