Ogier takes the lead, Evans in the running at Monza

En tête à l’issue la journée de vendredi, Dani Sordo (Hyundai) a vu les commissaires lui infliger une pénalité de 10 secondes pour avoir coupé une chicane lors de la sixième spéciale du rally. A penalty which did the business of Sébastien Ogier and its Toyota Yaris WRC.

Coming back to just two seconds at the dawn of the third day, the six-time world champion took the lead in the Monza Rally at the end of the 7th special, the first on Saturday.

Falling back to second place after the 8th special, Sébastien Ogier set the record straight during the 9th. Author of the second fastest time, half a second behind Elfyn Evans (Toyota), the Provençaux climbed to the top of the standings of this Monza Rally, relegating Dani Sordo to almost seven seconds and the championship leader to 7 seconds.

Fourth and fifth, Ott Tänak (Hyundai) and Esapekka Lappi (Ford) are respectively at 15“7 and 18“5.

Four other specials are on the daily menu. Sébastien Ogier must continue his momentum and hope for a misstep from Elfyn Evans to perhaps get closer to a seventh world crown.

The Monza Rally can be followed in live text on AUTOhebdo. Meet at 13:22 p.m. for the start of the 10th special, the fourth of the day.
