Ott Tänak set the best time in the Wales Rally GB shakedown. The Dmack driver was the fastest from the start, completing the course with a time of 1'59''7 on the first pass. The Estonian was ahead of Kris Meeke (Citroën) by 8 tenths and a second Craig Breen (Citroen).
Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen), quadruple world champion since Rally de Catalogne, a signé le 4e chrono à 1’’1 de la référence en précédant de 2 dixièmes Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) et de 4 dixièmes Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen). Dani Sordo (Hyundai) follows the Finn at a tenth, tied with Valeriy Gorban (Mini). Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) completed the top ten ahead of Lorenzo Bertelli (Ford), Kevin Abbring (Hyundai), Mads Ostberg (Ford) and the French Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën) and Éric Camilli (Ford).
Teemu Suninen (Skoda Fabia R5) was the best performer among the WRC 2 with a time of 2'03''6, less than 4 seconds from the best time.
