What better way to get started again than a home event? Ott Tänak will play on his land this weekend, during the Rally d’Estonie. Le pilote Hyundai, qui reste sur un abandon lors du dernier rallye, au Kenya, vise ni plus ni moins que la victoire devant ses fans. “It will be a huge challenge. We will have to be quick from the start. Rally Estonia is always a fantastic event”, confided the Estonian.

The world champion won at home for the first edition counting for the world championship, in 2020. In 2021, despite 11 scratch times over the entire weekend, Tänak saw his hopes of victory disappear. from Friday, after leaving the track.

This year, the Hyundai driver wants to take advantage of the local atmosphere to score big points. “The best part for me is that I don’t have travel days! It's also great to have a rally at home because we have amazing fans and loved ones around us. But there is no extra pressure, we just want to score as many points as possible. We will do our best and do everything possible to finish in the top positions. »

“Smoother and faster roads” in Estonia according to Tänak

In Estonia, the WRC will experience his 4th consecutive event on earth. According to Ott Tänak, the Baltic Rally has nothing to do with the other tracks already taken before. “For the first time this year, we are going to take smoother, softer and therefore faster roads. I expect it to be fun, but we also need to make sure we extract all the performance and potential from our car. »

The Hynudai i20 showed signs of performance in Kenya but was let down by the reliability of its mechanics. For this Estonian event, the Korean car should already be more comfortable. Ott Tänak also won the Sardinia Rally earlier in the season, in conditions similar to those expected near Tartu. Currently 3rd in the world championship with 62 points but already very far from leader Kalle Rovanperä (145 points), the Estonian has no other choice than victory to maintain his title hopes.
