Paddon objects to speculation

Hayden Paddon did not get back behind the wheel at Rally Monte-Carlo après sa sortie de route dans la première spéciale de l’épreuve. Si la Hyundai i20 WRC was able to restart in Rally 2, the team preferred to withdraw the n°4 following the death of a spectator.

“After reflection, I wanted to issue a statement about the events. Above all, our thoughts are with the viewer's family and friends. No matter the circumstances, it’s never something you want to see. John (Kennard, the co-pilot) and I are touched by the messages of support. It's even harder knowing that we can't return to New Zealand, but it's important to stay strong. »

If the victim is suspected of not having respected the areas reserved for spectators, Hayden Paddon does not want to enter into this debate.

“I would like to take this opportunity to ask people not to engage in speculation. Pointing fingers and looking for who is responsible will not change anything. The most important thing is to learn from this. I am committed to working with the FIA and the rally organizers to ensure this does not happen again. »

“I also take this opportunity to ask rally spectators to respect the instructions of the commissioners. We always want to enjoy the show and return home afterwards. I also ask every rally fan to take action if you see someone in a dangerous position. As a community, we must work together to ensure this never happens again. »

“I will finally ask for respect from the media, particularly for those close to the viewer. I will no longer publish press releases or do interviews at this time. We have chosen not to continue this weekend out of respect, but we will be back in Sweden where we will pay our respects. »

“Thank you again for everyone’s support and for the support of the team. It means a lot”, concluded Hayden Paddon.
