Petter Solberg finds success again

Petter Solberg, in 2009, led a rally three times, in Poland, Portugal and Norway. But, during these three events, the Norwegian only led after the first special, thanks to an initial scratch. This time, in Mexico, the 2003 World Champion did much better with five scratches in the first six specials and a leading position at the end of the first day.

Far from being in the game in Sweden, the Norwegian surprised everyone in Mexico and quickly confirmed that his times were not the result of chance. Also taking advantage of a good position on the road (he started eighth), the driver of the Citroën C4 WRC No. 11 could benefit from better grip than the drivers who left before him. In the end, before the start of the second day, he was in first position, 15 seconds ahead of Sébastien Ogier (Citroen C4 WRC).

« I had a lot of fun today, comments the Norwegian. Of course, my position on the road was an advantage. Despite this, we went very quickly. Tomorrow, by attacking the road first, it will be more difficult. But I will continue to enjoy driving and fighting for victory. »

Before SS7, Petter Solberg could have slowed down in order to fall back in the general classification and not inherit the opening position for Saturday. “ I didn't want these tactics, he corrects. I prefer to attack as much as possible and see where it takes me. It was a beautiful day. I am very happy. Sweden's disappointment is erased. When everything works, it's a pleasure. »
