Pirelli unveils tires for the 2021 season

From next year, the World Rally Championship teams will run exclusively with Pirelli tires until 2023. Tires that we could see for the first time this Thursday on the sidelines of the Shakedown of Rally from Sardinia.

To make this range of tires, Pirelli called on the experienced Andreas Mikkelsen (more than 100 tire tests). WRC to his credit). The Norwegian developed these rubbers on different surfaces such as dirt, asphalt, snow and even ice. The Italian manufacturer insisted on putting “ focus on durability, performance and adaptability ».

« The next time you will see our Pirelli tires in the world will be at the next Rallye Monte-Carlo for the start of our mandate as sole manufacturer, rejoiced Terenzio Testoni, rally manager at Pirelli.

To create these tires, we used lessons learned in Formula 1 as well as our previous experience in rallying, in other motor sports or even from our ultra high performance tires for the road ».

Five different ranges will be offered by Pirelli in 2021. The Sottozero Snow for rallies that are dry in places and covered in ice and snow in others. The Sottozero Ice for winter rounds like Sweden has 384 studs.

For gravel rallies, the championship cars will be equipped with the Scorpion range, available in soft and hard compounds. For asphalt events, Pirelli will also offer the P Zero on soft and hard surfaces.

If the asphalt tires “ must be suitable for dry and wet conditions », Pirelli will offer the Cinturato range in case of extreme conditions “in order to evacuate stagnant water”.
