Between Pirelli and the WRC, the adventure will soon come to an end. As stated a few weeks ago, the Italian manufacturer decided not to submit its application for the next call for tenders for the supply of rubber over the period 2025-2027, thus marking the end of its stay in rally started two years ago.

The reason for this withdrawal, unexpected to say the least when it had got its hands on the exclusive supply in WRC since 2021, from Pirelli has never been revealed. But internally, we wanted to ensure that this had no connection with the future of the brand in F1, where it also faces a call for tenders for the same period was also launched. On the contrary, the transalpine equipment manufacturer simply believes that the objective has been achieved and that it cannot go any further.

« We have a dedicated WRC team and we believe that during this period we have achieved what we wanted in terms of our involvement in the sport, confided Mario Isola in comments relayed by RaceFans.

The team that takes care of the WRC, or rallying in general, is not the same as the one that takes care of Formula 1. In rallying you have a niche of spectators who are very passionate and in four years , you can tell them whatever you want, basically. Formula 1 is a different audience and it takes a lot more time to make people understand that you are the supplier, that you are there, that you are developing the best possible technology… ”

Concerning the successor to Pirelli in WRC, no name has yet been selected but Michelin, MRF or even Hankook could present their candidacy for the period 2025-2027. To be continued…
