Porsche wants to “see the rally world’s response” to its R-GT concept

Brought to the forefront in 2015 with the launch of an FIA R-GT Cup, the category has long been marked by the omnipresence of Porsche 911, for a long time queens of the GT classes in the various national or international rallies.

With its R-GT concept based on a Cayman GT4 Clubsport, Porsche wishes to carry out a full-scale study, both on the capabilities of its creation and on the feedback from potential customers, during the Rally of Germany (August 16-19), with as ambassador Romain Dumas, who will officiate in the car lined up as usher.

“We can't wait to see how the rally world reacts to our R-GT concept, admits Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Porsche Motorsport and GT.

I would like to invite all interested drivers and team principals to visit the service park and take a close look at our rally car concept. Based on feedback and interest from potential customers, we will decide by the end of the year whether we will develop a rally competition car on a future Porsche model in the medium term. »

Seen in the GT4 series, notably in FFSAGT where it allowed Mike Parisy and Gilles Vannelet to be titled in 2017, the Cayman features the 3,8 hp 385-liter flat-six, coupled to the in-house PDK double-clutch gearbox.
