For the first time since his return to WRC, in 2017, Toyota va engager une voiture privée sur une manche du championnat du monde. Une Yaris GR privée, pilotée par Lorenzo Bertelli pour le Rally of Sweden from February 10 to 12. The Italian is no stranger to Rally1 having participated in the New Zealand Rally last season (with a 7th place finish), but has only known the Ford Puma hybrid.

Ahead of the snow event, Lorenzo Bertelli was able to discover his new mount in Sweden. A very satisfactory first contact according to the main person concerned. “Of course I expected a fast car, because it won the world championship”, he confided after his first tests aboard the Yaris GR Rally1. “I perhaps didn't expect it to be as easy to drive as the Puma, as Fords are generally known for being quite easy to handle. So I was positively surprised, because the Yaris was very agile and not nervous at all. It was also very easy to fly. It's not that easy to bring all that together in a rally car, so I was impressed by how quickly I felt comfortable behind the wheel. »

Bertelli back on other rounds in 2023?

The green and gray Toyota will be one of the main attractions of the Swedish Rally. Lorenzo Bertelli was unable to start last year, for professional reasons. He will be present this year in Scandinavia, and he could even return to other rounds this season. “I like fast rallies and Sweden is probably my favoritehe said. I'm really looking forward to it because I love Sweden and snow in general. I'm trying to see if there is an opportunity to do another event this year. I have to look into the feasibility in relation to my work as I am always very busy. For me, it's like taking a vacation. It's not that easy, but I'm working on it, so we'll see if I get the chance to come back. »
