Räikkönen: “I wanted to attack more”

Kimi Räikkönen continues his difficult learning of rally. However, unlike Sweden, the World Champion of Formula 1 will not see the arrival of the test. However, Iceman managed to set some good times, notably finishing in fifth place on SS4 in the same tenth as Dani Sordo (Citroën C4 WRC), ahead of Mikko Hirvonen (Ford Focus WRC).

But an exit from the road in SS7 (watch the video) deprived him of the rest of the competition. “ I was not lucky, says the Citroën Junior Team driver. The car went wide on a slippery bend. We hit the side of the road and rolled several times. I was hoping for a good result but this is only my seventh rally, I am still learning. It makes sense when you have to discover everything. »

Being aware of his shortcomings, Kimi knows that he still has a lot to learn before he can compete with the WRC regulars. In his quest for experience, this premature stop therefore deprived him of several dozen kilometers of training. “ My biggest disappointment is not being able to continue because I wanted to spend time in the car », confirms Räikönen.

Arriving with no experience behind the wheel of the Citroën C4 WRC on gravel, the Finn gained confidence after the first stages of the day on Friday. “ I was starting to have good feelings and I wanted to push a little more. I think we will be stronger for the next event. Even if I'm disappointed today, I really like this rally adventure. »
