Raimund Baumschlager will drive a 2016 Volkswagen Polo R WRC

When ratifying the end of the official Volkswagen program in WRC, the Motorsport division of the German brand had not closed the door to the possible exploitation of the 2016 world champion car by private structures, as part of the refocusing of its activity towards customer competition.

This Monday, Raimund Baumschlager has confirmed that he will drive a Volkswagen Polo R WRC previously entrusted to Sébastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen, becoming in fact the first private in the world to evolve in the creation of Wolfsburg.

“I am incredibly proud to be able to drive the Polo, comments the main person concerned. It is a great honor for me. It's definitely going to take some time to realize the car's full potential. »

The project has been in the works since the off-season, but was only finalized recently. Baumschlager will be at the start of Wechselland this weekend Rally in Austria, where he will receive support from Volkswagen Motorsport with the support of engineer Gerard Jan de Jongh, who officiated with Sébastien Ogier.
