Rally – The Toyota GT86 CS-R3 soon to be tested

In 2012, the production GT86 coupe Toyota was making its appearance. This 200 hp propulsion, built in collaboration with Subaru, was chosen by the world's leading manufacturer as the basis for its mount which will soon evolve in the R3 category. Today, after nine months of development, the CS-R3 is being assembled and in the starting blocks for its first tests. Powered by the 2,0 liter “boxer” which has been reworked for the occasion, the coupe will feature a six-speed sequential gearbox prepared by TMG, the motorsport branch of the Japanese manufacturer. Reinforced brakes and specific suspension kits for dirt and asphalt will also be on the program for this R3 which will begin its first runs during the month of July.

“It’s very satisfying to see the GT86 CS-R3 take shape and it’s exciting to think it will be on the track testing in just a few days’ time, says Nico Ehlert, senior engineer of the Customer Motorsport branch. We have worked hard to reach this stage, with a lot of effort in preparation and planning to ensure we deliver a reliable and enjoyable car to our customers. Our goal has been to develop a lightweight car that is safe, reliable and fun. So far everything is going according to plan and we have achieved our goals. We want to continue this progression in the testing phase. »

The official presentation of the GT86 CS-R3 should take place in the second half of August, before being available in the form of a kit for customers in early 2015. Toyota is also studying the question of offering cars fully assembled in its workshops.
