Rally – The R5 popular category

Peugeot with its 208 T16, Ford with its Fiesta, Citroën and its DS3, more recently Skoda with the Fabia and soon Hyundai, the big names of rally world are or will all be involved in the R5 category. The highest division of Group R, this category ultimately aims to replace the old S2000 and is primarily intended for customer competition.

“The beauty of the R5 is that it is low-cost while still being a good competition car, both reliable and very efficient. The parts are sturdy. An R5 is cheaper to buy but also cheaper to operate. » explains Christian Loriaux, technical director of M-Sport. The Rally of Portugal, which will take place from May 21 to 24, will be an opportunity to admire nearly 28 cars meeting these regulations, or 30% of the field.

Find our complete file on the R5 category, in the 2011 issue of AUTOhebdo, already available in digital version and on newsstands.
