Robert Kubica will be able to leave tomorrow

The Pole Robert Kubica had cautiously started this Rally of Finland, and hoped to run a consistent race. But during the first special this morning, the Pole was the victim of a road trip, bringing his day to a premature end. Back at the assistance, the team M-Sport was however able to begin repairs and the former pilot F1 will be able to restart tomorrow under the Rally 2 rule.

The old pilot Renault also explained the circumstances of his exit from the road. “On a fast section after a kilometer and a half in SS5, I had a bad mark. It was “six-left-longer-on-crest” so I went full throttle. Unfortunately, I was missing one piece of information: the car's load shedding. So, I went too wide. I went to the grass. Nothing would have happened if there had been a straight section afterwards. Unfortunately the road turned right, and we went far into a ditch. We then got thrown outside and hit something with the left front. The car did a complete spin in the air and we landed on the other side of the road. The damage wasn't too great, but it was still impossible to continue. »

An error in his notes, which the Pole admits to having misunderstood at this point. “The biggest problem in this situation was the load shedding due to the ridge, which I didn't notice until reconnaissance. I only noticed it when we were going at full speed. It's very difficult to predict these things as I don't have enough experience to know for sure which peaks will unload the car. But on the other hand, if you want to drive with a good pace, it would be difficult to slow down before every corner in sixth gear because there are many here. Yesterday, we took no risks and we were riding very well. Today, while doing the same thing, everything stopped too soon. Tomorrow we just have to continue with the same attitude. »

The first SS of the third day of Rally Finland will begin at 7:08 a.m., and will be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr.
