Second match point for Kalle Rovanperä. The pilot Toyota, reigning world champion, had a first opportunity to win a second world title during the Rally from Chile. To do this, he needed to score 27 points more than Elfyn Evans, his closest (and now only) opponent in the championship. In the BioBío region, it was ultimately the Welshman who recovered two units from the Finn.

With two rounds remaining in the season, the gap now stands at 31 points between the two teammates at Toyota, in favor of Kalle Rovanperä. The next meeting, the Central Europe Rally, could be decisive. Indeed: on the evening of the European round, unprecedented on the calendar WRC, if Kalle Rovanperä is 31 points ahead of Elfyn Evans, then he will be crowned for the second time.

A gap of 30 points on the evening of the Central European Rally would not be enough, since in terms of the number of victories in 2023, Kalle Rovanperä (3 victories) and Elfyn Evans (2 victories) can still finish tied at the end of the season, in the event of a tie on points. In this very unlikely case, we would then have to look at the number of 2nd places, and so on until we can decide between the two drivers.

– Elfyn Evans does not score a point, regardless of Kalle Rovanperä’s result
– Elfyn Evans does not score 1 point more than Kalle Rovanperä, regardless of the result of the two drivers
