Sébastien Loeb present at the Acropolis Rally: “I will have to start from scratch”

Absent since Kenya last June, Sébastien Loeb will soon return to service. It will be on the side of Greece, on the occasion of Rally of the Acropolis from September 8 to 11. In the lands of the Greek gods, the nine-time champion hopes to be able to bring home the 2nd victory of the season. M-Sport which has struggled to be competitive since the Alsatian's triumph at Monte-Carlo at the start of the season.
However, the task does not look easy for Sébastien Loeb in Greece. In a rally that he has not competed in since 2012 and his victory with Citroën (only 2 editions have had him since, 2013 and 2021), the Tricolore will have to make do with a route redone from new, or practically from new. Indeed, the organizers have changed the special stages and it will be into the unknown that the M-Sport driver will venture.
« I think I only know of two stages on this year's route, but that was ten years ago and my memories aren't exactly fresh anymore., he underlines. I will have to start from a blank sheet, which is always complicated. I think there will be quite a few new specials for everyone this year »
Rocky roads
Renowned for its rocky roads which challenge the WRC, the Acropolis Rally has not always smiled on Sébastien Loeb. It was also on Greek soil that he had his biggest career accident according to his own words (2009 edition where he was forced to retire after hitting a rock).
« I chose to come to Greece because I have always appreciated this beautiful gravel rallyHe says. It looks even better now and less brittle than when I last attended.
I've had some good times and some more complicated ones. For example, I had my biggest crash there. I also made a mistake in choosing tires, choosing the soft ones expecting a storm when it ended up being 40°C. It's difficult to identify an objective for this rally. I will prepare as best as possible and I hope to be on the pace like in Kenya and Portugal. I hope we can do a little better, without errors or problems. This will be our main goal »
