Sébastien Ogier big winner of a Dantesque day

The last special on the Monza circuit didn't change much. The day was decided earlier in the afternoon, when championship leader Elfyn Evans (Toyota) went off the road and had to abandon the Monza rally.  The culmination of a Dantesque third stage.

In the morning, the competitors had provided snow tires to tackle the special stages run in the mountains around Monza but they were mainly treated to rain. In this little game, Dani Sordo and Sébastien Ogier were playing cat and mouse, while Elfyn Evans completed a faultless round, placed just behind.

In the afternoon, without warning, the snow appeared in force. Depending on the altitude, competitors were treated to rain, snow, or both. The conditions made very slippery and difficult to understand trapped Gus Greensmith, Ole Christian Veiby then Elfyn Evans and Adrien fourmaux (WRC2). In total, two stages were canceled after the accidents, SS10 and SS12.

After this massacre, there remain three main survivors with Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) leading the way. The Frenchman is heading straight towards his seventh title in WRC. Now, in the current situation, with eleven points ahead of Elfyn Evans, he must win the rally to be assured of the crown without fearing the Power Stage tomorrow Sunday.

Dani Sordo (Hyundai) seems to be the only one who can stop him. In the leading group since the start of the rally, the Spaniard from Hyundai won the last special and is 17”8 behind Ogier. Behind, Ott Tänak (Hyundai), never a winner this weekend but placed, is more than 22 seconds behind.

Sébastien Ogier is on course to win it all, but there are still three stages to cover. “I have to score the points, according to the official general, I am behind” He recalls.
