Sébastien Ogier: “The difficulty remains the timing”

Le monde des rallyes est pendu à sa décision. Ford et M-Sport ? Toyota ? Ou une autre solution de dernière minute ? L’avenir de Sébastien Ogier could well decide in the coming hours and thus end a period of uncertainty for the Frenchman after the announcement of the withdrawal of Volkswagen Motorsport.

While Jari-Matti Latvala set to head to Tommi Mäkinen's Toyota Gazoo Racing, the M-Sport track often came up when discussing the choice of Sébastien Ogier for the 2017 season. Whatever his decision, the Frenchman admitted that timing was the major problem.

“Of course it will be different from what you are used to, explained the driver from Gap, interviewed after his tests of the Toyota and Ford at the FIA Prize Giving in Vienna last weekend. But like I said, the main difficulty for me is timing, which doesn't give me much time to adapt to a new situation.

If I had this sense (to know if I can win the championship with these cars), that would help me a lot. These tests were important, I had things to think about. »

The Frenchman also specified that he wanted to be present next January at Monte-Carlo. “I want to be there, but in an interesting project and with a goal. For me, it is performing well given what we have accomplished over the last four years.

I would rather take a step back than be in a project that I don't like, or that doesn't give me the necessary motivation. But there is a greater chance of seeing me at the start of Monte-Carlo than at home. »
