Sébastien Ogier: “For victory, everything is still possible”

With a scratch on his record this Saturday, Sébastien Ogier peut dormir tranquillement. Nouveau leader du Monte-Carlo après la troisième journée de course, le pilote Toyota ne semble pas pour autant convaincu par son samedi, en partie à cause de la deuxième spéciale du jour.

« Conditions deteriorated on the second stage. I was less incisive than in the first but there was really no grip. I think this is the most slippery stage I have done in my career, he pointed out without forgetting to point at his tires.

These tires in these conditions, we were really at a standstill. There wasn't much we could do. The road got worse as we passed, but we probably made a mistake with the tires. We didn't do the right calculations. Putting new tires in second gear was not the good idea, the worn ones would have had more grip ».

A bit disappointed, the Frenchman is not discouraged, on the contrary he sees a positive in it despite the last two specials where he was not entirely comfortable. “ It's not dramatic, the important thing is not to have wasted time on Elfyn (Evans). We even managed to take a few seconds. For victory, everything is still possible. This morning, it was the kind of special where you can make differences, but where you can quickly stand out too ».

If he starts Sunday with a 13-second lead, Sébastien Ogier does not want to come forward and talk about a possible eighth victory in the event. Especially since Elfyn Evans won't make it easy for him. “  Fifteen seconds ahead of Monte-Carlo is not enough to have peace of mind ».
