Sébastien Ogier could continue his WRC adventure in 2021

For many months, Sébastien Ogier regularly repeated that 2020 would very likely be his last full campaign in World Rally Championship.

The pilot of the Toyota Gazoo Racing had signed up with the Japanese team led by Tommi Mäkinen for a season after its shortened adventure with Citroën Racing, before world motorsport was put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic, and which forced the organizers to postpone or cancel their trials (latest Portugal).

“Of course, I miss racing every day, but my priorities are elsewhere, comments the six-time world champion on the current situation, in an interview on Instagram for Red Bull Motorsports.

I hope the world can start living more normally again, even if it won't be the normality we're used to. I hope that we can start racing again at some point in the year and thus continue this adventure with Toyota, which has started quite well. »

An adventure initially lasting one year which could however have a sequel. “ Obviously no one expected to find themselves in this situation, comments the Frenchman. There is a lot of uncertainty about what will happen. If the championship is not restarted and we don't have a real championship, there is a chance that I will sign up for another season.

It is a potential. I still hope that we can restart a real season. If so, the question will be different. »

Sébastien Ogier currently leads the ranking of WRC 2020 after his victory in Mexico during the last event contested in March.
