The now master of Monte-Carlo, with a ninth victory in the principality, does not intend to move away from rally too long this season. The next round in Sweden will be done without Sébastien Ogier, but he gets back behind the wheel in Mexico. The gravel event had been absent from the calendar for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the last edition was won by… Ogier himself, also at the wheel of a Toyota.

« It's no secret that I'll be in Mexico the next round, a rally that I've always enjoyed, explained the 39-year-old pilot on Canal+. It was as obvious a choice for me as for the team to return to the dirt in Mexico, because I often performed well there. Ultimately it won't be too big a break between Monte-Carlo and my next race. » The presence of the eight-time world champion in Mexico was made official by Toyota on February 1.

The story between the Mexican race and the Frenchman began in 2008. During the Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC), Ogier caused a sensation: a victory in the category, but also a first point in the general classification of the WRC. Behind the Monte-Carlo, the Mexico rally is the one that the Frenchman has won the most, on the highest step of the podium six times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2020). A romance that could continue to be written for this third round of the WRC championship, from March 16 to 19.
