- Is it the weekend of Hyundai ? It's still too early to tell but the South Korean i20s attacked the Rally from Sardinia on the right foot. It's just the Shakedown but Esapekka Lappi and Thierry Neuville have monopolized the first places on the timesheet.
- The advantage goes to Esapekka Lappi, the fastest man of the morning in this 2,87 kilometer course around the town of Loiri Porto San Paolo. With three passes under his belt, the Finn achieved his best time during the last one with a time of 1'45"9 ahead of Thierry Neuville by 6 tenths.
- Back after missing the Rally of Portugal, Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) is in third place, 1“2 from the day’s benchmark. Pierre-Louis Loubet (M-Sport) and Dani Sordo (Hyundai) complete the Top 5 at 1“2 and 1“5 respectively.
- Winner of his first rally of the year in Portugal in May, Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota) got off to a smooth start. The reigning world champion ranked 6e 2” behind his compatriot.
