His last appearance dates back to Rally of Kenya in 1997. Sobieslw Zasada will be at the start of the next Safari, which begins this Thursday, at the wheel of a Ford Fiesta Rally3. He will thus become the oldest driver to start a round of WRC, at the age of 91.

“I always found the Safari to be a fantastic rally, says Zasada. I have already participated eight times, the last time in 1997. I am really curious to see what it will be like this year, which is why I decided to go. Goal level, it’s quite simple: cross the finish line.”

Sobieslaw Zadada is no stranger to the world of rallying. He was triple European champion in 1966, 1967 and 1971 but also Polish rally champion 11 times. The Polish driver also knows the Kenyan rally very well, having participated in it eight times.

“It will be a challenge, says the nonagenarian. The Safari is a difficult rally, perhaps the most difficult in the world. I think this rally is three or four times more difficult than current rallies”

Sobieslaw Zadada won't be the only member of his family taking part in Rally Kenya this weekend, as his grandson Daniel Chwist will also be there in WRC2.

“I told my grandson to ride when he was 12, confides Zesada. From the beginning, I told him that the most important thing is to cross the finish line. Daniel drives really well and we often talk about driving. My youngest grandson, Artur is also very good and he completed a 24 hour race in a KTM GTX.”

The Kenyan rally will begin this Wednesday and can be followed in live text on AutoHEBDO
