Sordo widens the gap, Ogier-Neuville duel to come

Leader with 17” ahead of Temmu Suninen at the end of the first day of the Rally from Sardinia, Dani Sordo showed this Saturday that he was the boss in Sardinia. Constantly in the game, the Spaniard won a special and above all distanced his rivals overall.

After an almost perfect morning where he relegated his first pursuer, Thierry Neuville, à plus de 31“5, l’Ibérique a continué sur sa lancée l’après-midi. S’il a laissé filer un peu de temps par-ci, par-là, le pilote Hyundai a bouclé son samedi avec plus 27 secondes d’avance sur son nouveau dauphin Sébastien Ogier whose afternoon was perfect.

Third after the four morning specials, the six-time world rally champion pulled out all the stops during his second outing of the day. He simply gave his rivals no chance.

Successively author of the best time in SS 11 and 12, Sébastien Ogier caught up with Thierry Neuville and even overtook him in the general classification. At the dawn of the last day of racing, the Habs are 1” ahead of their Belgian rival. “ It's important to beat him (Neuville) after tomorrow (dimanche) pas aujourd’hui », a prévenu le pilote Toyota. Ça promet.

Behind, Elfyn Evans is dropped but is still in a good fourth place. Reassuring for the fight at the world championship with Sébastien Ogier. The Welshman took advantage of Teemu Suninen's very bad morning (now 5th) to grab a small place overall.

The reigning world champion Ott Tänak is 6th, more than 2’20 behind Dani Sordo. On the French side, Pierre-Louis Loubet is 7th at 3’37. Note that Kalle Rovanpëra was unable to complete SS8, the first of the day, due to going off the road. He was forced to abandon.
