Teemu Suninen with M-Sport in WRC-2 in 2017

After two seasons under the colors of Team Oreca, both with the Skoda Fabia S2000 and R5 and with a Ford Fiesta R5, Finnish Teemu Suninen joins the Team M-Sport for 2017.

Alongside Eric Camilli, whose complete program in WRC-2 has been confirmed (the thirteen rounds of the WRC should however be on the menu for the Niçois), Suninen will start his season at Rally of Sweden for a minimum of five rounds. Other events could be added to its calendar as the season progresses. According to the WRC website, Suninen could compete in the Sardinia, Poland and Finland rallies in a 2017 Ford Fiesta WRC.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity and very happy to join the M-Sport team, explains Suninen. They have given me a great program for the coming year and there will be some exciting times ahead.

M-Sport offers one of the best environments for young drivers to learn and gain experience on their road to the next level. I'm really looking forward to working with this passionate team and seeing for myself how the four-time world champion, Sébastien Ogier, work.

My goal for this season is to improve my position compared to last year when I finished second in the championship. I know it will be a big challenge, but with more experience I feel ready and in a good position. »

Suninen was able to test the Toyota Yaris from Gazoo Racing last year, and was one of the tracks for Tommi Mäkinen to constitute its trio for the 2017 season. Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi had finally joined the ranks of the Japanese brand.
