Thierry Neuville wins the Ciocco rally

Mission accomplished for Thierry Neuville and Martin Wydaeghe who dominated the 44th rally Il Ciocco, round of the Italian championship, with their Hyundai i20 R5.

The current driver second in the WRC wins ahead of Stefano Albertini. The Italian managed to stay in front of Neuville for a while, then pressed him before “giving up” on the last loop.

The Skoda Fabia driver above all ensured success for the Italian rally championship adding a point from the Power Stage on Friday. Giandomenico Basso, former European and Italian champion – the last time two years ago – completes the podium.

After some difficulties finding the right sensations and better grip with the Skoda Fabia R5 Delta Rally, which caused him to lose a few seconds in the first stages, he achieved a series of excellent times during the last loop, going as far as when overtaking, in the final special, Fabio Andolfi.

The very fast pace of the race caused an illustrious victim, Craig Breen. The Irish driver of the Hyundai Motorsport team, associated with Paul Nagle, was among the favorites, obviously with an i20 R5, until the fifth special where, in the final straight, he made a mistake and ended up on the roof .

Next step for Thierry Neuville, the Croatia WRC rally, scheduled for April 22 to 25.
