A double challenge for Evans in Sardinia

Between leading the general classification and opening an event on gravel where sweeping is always of major importance, Elfyn Evans will have a serious equation to solve this weekend on the Sardinian roads.

The pilot Toyota will have to deal with terrain and possible weather in view of the season which could play tricks on him, but maintaining his position at the end of the Italian event will undoubtedly constitute his primary objective in the face of the multiple challenges to face.

« Every time you complete a rally on a good note like we did in Turkey, it's always a good boost for the next round, recalls the Welshman.

Dominating the championship certainly offers an interesting position, although it comes with an added challenge as we will have to sweep the road in Sardinia.

That's the way it is, but it won't be an easy rally for us, provided it stays dry, of course. Driving in Sardinia in October could be a bit of a game changer with the weather forecast.

It may be a little less demanding on the tires, but we will still have difficult choices. We are facing loops where we have to choose tires for the first and second passes without returning to service, so there will still be a big challenge. »

Important tests

In order to best prepare for the island meeting and possible changing weather conditions, the Toyota Gazoo Racing has carried out intense trials recently. Enough to provide a good working base for Tommi Mäkinen's team.

“During testing we had heavy rain showers and the conditions on the stage changed completely within a few minutes. » remember Sébastien Ogier.

The Frenchman, forced to retire in Turkey, while a major result was looming, has certainly lost contact with his teammate in the championship, but does not intend to give up. “Everything is still open in the championship, so we must continue to do our best and aim for maximum points in Sardinia. » indicates the six-time world champion.
