Towards shorter rallies to conclude the 2020 season?

If today, the sleeves of WRC comprise around 300 km of sectors against the clock, the end of the 2020 season could see the rounds which will be included in the calendar display only 250 km at least.

An idea which is currently under discussion within the WRC commission at the FIA, and which was not put to a vote during the last World Motor Sport Council last week.

The rallies would take place over three days, from Friday to Sunday, therefore excluding Thursday. A decision which could be validated with a view to reducing costs in the face of the crisis linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

Remember that the FIA had already ratified the reduction in the number of usable engines (from 3 to 2) if the next calendar were to include eight events or fewer. Another area worked to contain costs is the reduction of testing for drivers fielded by a manufacturer to one day before any European round.

Until now, manufacturers were entitled to 42 days of testing. However, driving on the basis nominated by each brand for the year remains unlimited.
