Volkswagen aims for record at Rally Mexico

Volkswagen Motorsport could equal its record of consecutive victories achieved between Rally of Australia 2013 and the Rally of Finland 2014. Undefeated since the Rally of Portugal, the Wolfsburg manufacturer will have the opportunity to achieve a 12th success in a row while Sébastien Ogier will compete in his hundredth start in WRC after his debut in this event in 2008 with Citroën Racing.

The three-time world champion should be penalized by his position on the road since he is leading the Championship, but the Frenchman remains the best contender for victory since he remains on three victories at the Rally of Mexico.

“My career started with a J-WRC victory (with a C2 S1600) eight years ago. It was a dream come true.", commented Sébastien Ogier. “The most important parameter is altitude and our Volkswagen Polo R WRC has always performed well in these conditions. I hope this will still be the case in 2016.”

Conversely, Jari-Matti Latvala will benefit from a good position after his poor start to the season where he scored no points. “We should have an advantage as long as it doesn't rain, even if it's rare in Mexico”, declared the Finn. “I try to stay optimistic and I'm sure things will get better. I hope the weekend goes well. »

The Rally Mexico will begin with three super special stages on Friday March 4 from 3 a.m. (French time).
