WRC – Citroën Racing did well in Spain

Dani Sordo was not rewarded for his efforts. After having been in the fight for the head of the Rally of Spain against Jari-Matti Latvala in the 2nd stage, the Spaniard remained at the forefront despite the return of Sébastien Ogier and was aiming for a place on the podium before retiring in the penultimate stage by breaking his suspension. His teammate Mikko Hirvonen recovered the position to place a DS3 WRC on the podium. “First of all I'm really sorry for Dani and Carlos (del Barrio), who had a great race, both on asphalt and on gravel. I'm quite satisfied with my weekend, since we managed to stay in the leading pack on the tarmac. It's good to be back on the podium, I will now try to finish the season in style with the Rally Great Britain. »

Citroën Racing no longer had any illusions about the Manufacturers' title, with Volkswagen Motorsport only needing a 7th place to win the title. The disappointment is more due to the abandonment of Dani Sordo who dreamed of shining at home. “This rally offered a summary of difficulties, and I would like to underline the quality of the work of all the members of the team”, added Yves Matton, director of Citroën Racing. “In terms of performance, reliability and strategy, we had a very good race. Dani did not reach the finish, but we had to attack as much as possible to give a response to our opponents, and this cannot be done without taking risks. I would like to congratulate Volkswagen, which succeeds Citroën in the World Manufacturers' Championship. They had a great season and they deserve this title. »
