WRC – Hirvonen on the attack to resist Neuville

Mikko Hirvonen moved into second place in the Rally of Mexico taking advantage of the abandonment of Mads Ostberg, but the Finn had to be content to maintain Thierry Neuville at a distance, the leader of the Rally of Mexico Sébastien Ogier having taken too big a lead to allow the Finn to threaten him. However, the Citroën driver lost a lot of time by puncturing on the second pass of Otates and now finds himself once again in a duel with the driver M-Sport for second place, the Belgian only 7”5 behind. “It happened after around twenty kilometers, mid-stage. I felt nothing, typed nothing. I decided not to stop to change the wheel. »

The Citroën driver needs the points for second place to stay in the Championship following his retirement from the Swedish Rally. The Scandinavian intends to secure his position by making the difference on the 54km Guanajuatito course, the longest special stage of the Mexican event. “Nothing is ever finished, especially on such a difficult rally. The justice of the peace of the last stage will be the 54 km special and I am sure that Thierry Neuville will attack to try to take the advantage. But we will defend our position! »
