WRC – Hirvonen: Offer the championship to Citroën

Last year, Mikko Hirvonen fought for victory with Jari-Matti Latvala and Sébastien Loeb before having to retire following an exit from the track which damaged the radiator of his Ford Fiesta RS WRC. At the wheel of the Citroën DS3 WRC, the Finn is ready to face all the pitfalls of Wales Rally GB, which will take place this weekend.

" I like this rally despite its difficulties, explains Hirvonen. The speeds reached are extremely high and it is exhilarating for the drivers. All the stages are beautiful, I couldn't even choose one more than another. In the conditions we usually encounter at the end of the year, the surface is so muddy and slippery that you can go off the road at any turn. It may not be the same on this date. If it's dry, I think it will be a little easier... but even faster. Even if we will be able to have hard tires in case of summer weather, we will have to control their wear. »

Winner in 2007 on British roads, the Finn will perform with restraint in order to ensure the necessary number of points for his team to win the Championship. “This success is one of the best memories of my career. I faced Sébastien several times on this rally for the Drivers' title, but I never managed to beat him! I would really like us to give Citroën the championship in Great Britain. » Once the Manufacturers' title in his pocket, Mikko Hirvonen could perform even more during the final events of the season in France (October 4-7), Italy (October 18-21) and 8-11 (November). ?If we win the title for Citroën in Great Britain, I won?t have to think about points anymore. This will allow me to let go a little more, especially on asphalt. We saw in Germany that I particularly needed to progress on this surface. For that, I have to take a little more risk to get closer to the limit. »
