WRC – Kris Meeke will stay at Citroën in 2015

Citroën Racing has confirmed the contract extension of Kris Meeke for the 2015 season. The Northern Irishman finished in 7th place in the Championship at the end of Wales Rally GB where he could have claimed 2nd place without a puncture relegating him to 6th position. The driver of the manufacturer with chevrons notably distinguished himself in Monte-Carlo, in Argentina, in Finland and in Alsace, finishing in the leading trifecta each time. His co-driver Paul Nagle will remain in the game.

“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to continue this adventure”, said Kris Meeke, 3rd in the JWRC in 2005 and IRC champion in 2009. “Since last year, Citroën Racing has given me a chance to prove my worth. This first full season was a year of learning. During the second half of the calendar, I was able to show some of my potential. There is still work to be done, but I will be able to benefit from a solid base to continue to progress. With experience, everything becomes simpler. I know the team well and we understand each other. I feel like part of a family at Citroën! »

On the other hand, Yves Matton has not yet confirmed a second driver, which leaves Mads Ostberg in uncertainty. “By betting on Kris Meeke this season, we made a bet”, added Yves, director of Citroën Racing. “He improved race after race until he became a complete driver. We saw a real turning point during the Rally from Finland. His approach was the right one. He has been able to gain experience all season, show his burst of speed, but also sometimes be more patient. Kris is a competitive driver on all surfaces, capable of going fast on asphalt and dirt. This versatility is an asset for Citroën Racing. The name of the team?s second driver for 2015 will be announced soon, when the various ongoing discussions are finalized. »
