WRC – The Acropolis, a dream come true for Latvala

Jari-Matti Latvala won his first victory of the season yesterday by winning for the first time in the Rally of the Acropolis. If the Finn had to wait for long hours before being able to celebrate his success following a complaint from Citroën Racing, he finally regained the first place he had coveted since the Wales Rally GB contested last year. This result allows him to take second place in the Championship, still 52 points behind his teammate. Sébastien Ogier who could only save a tenth place and a victory in the Power Stage.

After taking the last step of the podium last year, Jari-Matti Latvala is particularly happy to add the Acropolis Rally to his list of achievements. If the Scandinavian had a good lead over Dani Sordo and Thierry Neuville, the pressure remained maximum for the Volkswagen driver who feared a problem on the rough roads of the Greek event.

“I am absolutely delighted and I want to dedicate this victory to the team”, commented the third winner of the year. “The start of the season was very difficult for me, but the team always believed in me and supported me fully. I'm happy to see all these smiling turns around me. This victory at the Acropolis Rally means a lot because it is an extremely difficult classic event. Since my first participation at the age of 18, I dreamed of winning one day. The last stage seemed endless. I felt every stone and couldn't wait to see the finish line. »
