WRC – Latvala widens the gap at Rally Argentina

Jari-Matti Latvala widened the gap on his teammate Sébastien Ogier by signing two new scratches in the second passage of the courses of the second stage of the Rally from Argentina despite the fog. The Finn notably took advantage of the problems of his rival who saw his front tire delaminate towards the end of San Agustin? Villa del Dique (SS8), which damaged the front of his Polo and caused him to lose the front bumper on the following course. Before competing in the super special which ends the day, the Frenchman is half a minute behind the leader of the event. “It’s not finished but we’re still behind schedule and it’s starting to get complicated”, recognized the reigning world champion.

Kris Meeke retains his place on the provisional podium but his lead over Andreas Mikkelsen is down to two minutes. Thierry Neuville gained no less than three positions to climb into the top five with 23 seconds ahead of Robert Kubica. Elfyn Evans follows in seventh position without being really worried by Martin Prokop. Nasser Al-Attiyah remains at the head of WRC2. Quentin Gilbert is in 15th place in the general classification while still suffering from serious problems on his Fiesta R5.

The closing super special of the second stage did not change the positions even if the conditions were tricky with the rain. Thierry Neuville took the scratch, putting an end to the uninterrupted series of special victories achieved by Volkswagen since the start of the event.

The final stage of the Rally Argentina will be contested from 13:44 p.m. (French time). Videos of the event can be viewed on this link.
