WRC – Latvala will play for the podium at the Acropolis

Jari-Matti Latvala recently spoke to Self on his first test session since his ski fall where the Finn broke his collarbone. The Ford driver claimed that these tests were positive even though he was not “not yet 100%” and he will still be handicapped by his injury next week at Rally of the Acropolis. “I will take painkillers to the event but I will only take them if absolutely necessary”, he says. “The physiotherapist is satisfied with the way things are progressing. We are ahead of the recovery program even though this program was quite tight. I'm motivated to get back behind the wheel, the car and the team are competitive. »

After his multiple retirements, Jari-Matti Latvala only has 28 points compared to 91 points for leader Sébastien Loeb. The Finn knows that one more mistake would be unforgivable and he therefore plans to lower his objectives by aiming only for a podium rather than seeking victory at all costs. “I hope to be able to fight for a podium”, he admits. “It would be better to fight for victory in this rally but the podium remains my goal. I don't know how I'll feel until I compete. However, my approach will be the same for the qualifying special, I don't want to approach it by taking my foot off the gas. »
