WRC – Latvala surprises himself at Monte-Carlo

While he barely hoped to be able to fight for a podium at the Rally Monte Carlo, Jari-Matti Latvala finds himself in second place between the Polo R WRC of his teammates Sébastien Ogier and Andreas Mikkelsen. The Finn, who remains on a 4th place obtained last year as the best result in this event, therefore exceeds his objectives on the evening of the second stage, after having benefited from the misfortunes of Sébastien Loeb (Citroen).

“I said before the rally that I was aiming for a top 4 and I am obviously satisfied with this position”, confirmed the vice-world champion at a press conference. “I am happy to be able to continue learning, even if the conditions are difficult since they are different from those encountered during reconnaissance. I found my tire choice perfect for the second pass, although I may not have fitted the most optimal compounds. »

Jari-Matti Latvala will not change his approach however, his delay on Sébastien Ogier clocking in at almost two minutes. “I want to fight for the title and I have to keep in mind that it will be a long season. I shouldn't panic! »

The crews will compete in the third stage of the Monte-Carlo Rally from 9:16 a.m. The videos of the event can be consulted here.
