WRC – Mikkelsen in the bath after the Fafe Rally

Andreas Mikkelsen was the only Volkswagen representative at the Fafe Rally Sprint held the day before before the Rally of Portugal which will be run next week. The Norwegian was initially supposed to share the Polo R WRC with the leader of the Championship Sébastien Ogier, but the Frenchman was declared unwell and was unable to participate in this mini-event held outside the Championship. The Scandinavian finally placed fourth, 17 seconds behind winner Dani Sordo.

“It was a unique experience and my hair remains erect even after arrival”, comments the Volkswagen driver. “The spectators were incredible, they almost drowned out the noise of the engines. The crowd photographed us during the jumps as well as when skiing. It was simply incredible. These kinds of events are a real bonus for the rally. I am very happy with this first meeting behind the wheel of the Polo R WRC, even if a spin on the last pass cost me third place. »

After the Fafe Rally Sprint, Andreas Mikkelsen is preparing to take part in his first WRC event at the wheel of the Polo R WRC. Volkswagen has assembled a second team for the double IRC champion who will make his Rally Portugal debut next week. “I am now looking forward to Rally Portugal. This will be my first rally behind the wheel of the Polo after the tests carried out over the last few months. Rally Portugal is one of the toughest events of the season and we cannot afford to make any mistakes. Above all, we want to cross the finish line. »
