WRC – Neuville: Continue its momentum in Mexico

The start of the season with M-Sport had started badly for Thierry Neuville when the latter gave up at the start of the Rally Monte Carlo. The M-Sport driver fortunately made up for it by taking fifth place in Sweden ahead of his teammate Juho Hänninen. After these two events contested in winter conditions, the Belgian is preparing to return to the Mexican specials while he is still trying to find his bearings with his new mount. “As with Sweden, we will need to take a sensible approach to this rally. We proved that we had the speed last year (with a 13th place finish with the Citroën DS3 WRC), but this time it will be a question of being consistent and reaching the finish without making any mistakes. Among all the events this season, this rally is not the most difficult but it is certainly one of the most beautiful. The biggest challenge will be the long special stage of the last stage (Guanajuatito, 55km long). It’s an incredible stage but we have to work extremely hard to stay focused. »

For this first gravel event of the season where Sébastien Loeb will be absent, Thierry Neuville will seek to sign a second convincing result. The Belgian is two points ahead of his teammate Juho Hänninen but is already 14 points behind the first M-Sport driver Mads Ostberg who managed to reach the finish line at Monte-Carlo in sixth place before scoring a podium in Sweden. “Positions on the road are always very significant and so a good result in qualifying will be important. This will be the first objective before achieving a first day without making any mistakes. Although we are still building confidence with the car, I am looking forward to what will be my first gravel rally with the Fiesta. If we are in a good position to fight for a good result, we will not hinder ourselves. »
