The Ford Fiesta RS WRC should benefit from better performance from Rally of Portugal contested from May 22 to 24. After more than 5000km of tests, M-Sport has validated the evolution of its mount which will have a new engine.
This 1.6l block will be more powerful than the old version and will provide better torque. This engine was entirely designed in M-Sport premises with technical support from Ford, which is a first for the structure led by Malcolm wilson. Developments also concern the cooling system, transmission, electronics, etc.
“This work began in 2012, but our initial developments have evolved to offer a major advance in terms of flexibility of use and performance”, explains Chris Williams, the engineering director of M-Sport. “The chassis of the Seafood is renowned for its ease of handling but we have further improved this area. The new engine brings a significant improvement in low-speed torque, which will be valuable in slow corners. »
