WRC – Ogier took a step towards the crown in Australia

Jari-Matti Latvala could not prevent Sébastien Ogier de win for the second year in a row at Rally Australia. But the Finn, who missed a close success in Germany, recovered well and constantly threatened the reigning world champion who won with less than seven seconds in advance. “We attacked on Friday morning. Fortunately, the first step wasn't too long. It was less than 100km and one of the stages was used for the shakedown. It made the difference. I then took advantage of the mud to end the day as leader, which surprised me a little,” explained the Championship leader who had to open the road at the start of the event.

The fight between the two Volkswagen drivers nevertheless continued during the other two stages. “The second day went well. I made a better choice of tires than Jari (harder compounds) even if it was not perfect. We had difficulty predicting the weather. I managed to maintain my lead but it wasn't fun. Jari was fast and I had to maintain a high pace. »

While Volkswagen celebrates its Manufacturers' title, Sébastien Ogier turns to the Drivers' ranking and hopes to win the title during his national event held in Alsace from October 3 to 5. The reigning world champion will only need to score six more points against his Finnish rival to retain his crown. “We can celebrate the Manufacturers’ title, but this weekend is also a big step towards the Drivers’ title for me. We now have a 50 point lead and a victory would be enough. This is what I will try to do in France but I already want to celebrate this success. I have wonderful memories of the last edition (where he won). I won't have to fight at all costs for victory, a podium will be satisfying. »
