WRC – Ogier: “I wanted to have fun”

Sébastien Ogier lost the victory Rally of Spain after hitting a guardrail in the Power Stage, while he had almost a minute ahead of his pursuers. If the Drivers and Manufacturers titles are already played, lThe Frenchman had the opportunity to sign a third in a row on Catalan soil after losing his teammates.

“It was a long left turn, twice. This morning during the first passage, I corrected the note because the exit from the corner was faster than initially noted. The problem is that I also entered faster than in the first round. The car was shifted, the trajectory widened by 10 centimeters too much and it was the rail that stopped us in our tracks”, explained the Volkswagen driver (video of the accident).

This error allowed Andreas Mikkelsen to take his first victory in WRC, but Volkswagen had to “settle for” a double with Jari-Matti Latvala in second place. “It was a bit of a stupid mistake, because we had won the race”, admitted Sébastien Ogier. “We had been managing our lead for a day and I wanted to please myself by attacking in this last special. I played and I lost. I accept full responsibility and the consequences which, fortunately, are not too serious. »
