Sébastien Ogier despite having won the Rally Monte-Carlo with a two-minute lead over its closest pursuer Andreas Mikkelsen, the three-time world champion had to stay at a high pace during the first three stages to resist Chris Meeke (Citroen). The duel ended when the Abu Dhabi WRT driver retired after damaging his gearbox by hitting a stone.
“It was really exciting”, commented Sébastien Ogier after celebrating his fourth success at Monte-Carlo. “A journalist asked me if this edition had been simpler than the previous one. I replied that it was never easy in Monte-Carlo, but this fight was not easier than the one fought against Loeb. Kris did a really good job being really fast. It immediately picked up time when I became more careful in the difficult sections. It's a shame the fight didn't continue. He was very unlucky. »
