Sébastien Ogier signed his second victory last weekend at the Rally of Germany after his first success in 2011, at the end of an event masterfully mastered by the double world champion and his teammates who won 20 of the 21 special stages on the route.
It’s a relief for Volkswagen, which was desperately trying to secure a victory on home soil, even though the people’s manufacturer had won every event on the calendar with the Polo R. WRC. The Wolfsburg brand achieved its goal by signing a new treble with Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen on the podium.
“It’s already my 30th WRC victory, the numbers are soaring. I don’t really see the time passing”, commented Sébastien Ogier at a press conference. “I’m very happy, but this victory is very special. The team's main objective is to win the Drivers' and Manufacturers' Championships, but I think the second goal of the season was to win the Rally Germany."
Sébastien Ogier therefore protected his first place without trying to attack, once his leadership position was consolidated. “We promised victory to our boss (Jost Capito, director of Vollswagen Motorsport) last year and we kept our promise. I didn't lie when I said I didn't care about the Power Stage... It would have been stupid to take too many risks to lose this fantastic treble, when we hoped so much for the team.", added the Championship leader who now has a 93-point lead with four rallies remaining.
